A Northern California based ecological consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Biologist or Project Manager to lead environmental projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely or in the office and presents the opportunity to apply your expertise in local wildlife, regulatory issues, and environmental project management. As a project manager, you will play a key role in developing solutions to environmental challenges, contributing to projects that have a positive impact on the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead biological assessments and environmental documentation for NEPA/CEQA projects, including development projects in sensitive areas and those involving wetlands, riparian zones, bird-safe design, or endangered species.
- Manage compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and assist clients in minimizing project constraints.
- Conduct pre-activity surveys, support compliance efforts with permits, provide environmental training, and conduct construction monitoring.
- Develop mitigation and monitoring plans in collaboration with restoration ecologists, focusing on wildlife management and monitoring success criteria.
- Prepare and edit technical reports, proposals, and business development materials.
- Serve as a liaison with clients, project team members, and agency contacts, ensuring clear communication and efficient project execution.
- Mentor and manage a team of wildlife staff, fostering collaboration and professional development.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong local expertise in San Francisco Bay Area wildlife species and habitats, ideally with an M.S. or Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or a related field, or equivalent extensive experience in the region.
- 4-8 years of professional experience in environmental biology, with at least 1 year in a management role.
- Proven experience in authoring and editing technical reports with exceptional writing skills (writing sample may be requested).
- Expertise in project management, including personal organization, coordination of multiple projects, critical thinking, and effective team communication.
- Familiarity with CEQA/NEPA documentation and ESA and CESA consultations is highly preferred.
- Strong interest in ongoing learning and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Compensation:
- The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and qualifications.
