We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to join our client in San Diego, California. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in developing accurate and competitive bids for heavy civil construction projects, including roads, bridges, and highways. This position requires a seasoned professional with a proven track record of successfully bidding and winning heavy civil projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
- Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to identify key requirements and ensure compliance.
- Analyze and evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
- Develop project schedules and assess potential risks to inform pricing strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive and competitive bid packages.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions and gather critical project information.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency in bid preparation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, labor costs, and material pricing.
- Lead bid presentations and client discussions, clearly communicating cost details and justifications.
- Monitor post-bid activities and participate in contract negotiations as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience successfully bidding and winning heavy civil construction projects such as roads, bridges, and highways.
- In-depth knowledge of estimating principles, construction methods, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards and regulations is highly desirable.
