Position: Transmission Planning Engineer - Stability Studies

As part of our Stability Studies group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and reliability of the bulk power system (BPS) through dynamic simulations, technical studies, and innovative solutions.

Primary Job Responsibilities
- Perform advanced power system studies, including transient stability, electromagnetic transient analysis, and other dynamic simulations.
- Analyze the impacts of increasing inverter-based resources and emerging technologies on BPS reliability and stability.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical guidelines, and documentation.
- Evaluate protection system requirements for grid stability and analyze regulatory and industry changes affecting the BPS.
- Conduct specialized studies such as geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) analysis, insulation coordination, and root cause event investigations.
- Collaborate with industry experts and participate in regional planning with neighboring systems.
- Stay updated on advancements in power systems engineering and identify business opportunities.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (required).
- Advanced degrees (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
- Professional Engineering (PE) license (preferred).
Work Experience
- Experience in transmission planning, stability studies, or related areas (preferred).
- Proficiency with power system modeling tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, PowerWorld, MATLAB, or EMTP-RV (desired).
- Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards and industry standards (e.g., IEEE).
- Knowledge of electrical equipment, protection systems, and power system operations.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical findings to diverse audiences.
- Expertise in electrical theory and characteristics of transmission systems.
