Overview:
As a Senior Energy Storage Engineer, you will take the lead on utility-scale solar energy storage projects, leveraging your expertise and industry experience to drive the development of technically advanced and economically viable project designs. Your role will be crucial in delivering high-quality, cost-effective designs that support our energy storage systems. Collaboration with various teams-such as Procurement, Project Development, Business Development, Project Engineering, Finance, Substation Engineering, and Interconnection management-will be key as you provide design and technical support for energy storage initiatives.
Main Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in energy storage systems.
- Develop detailed layout designs, conduct energy modeling, and provide constructability and due diligence support for energy storage projects. Evaluate project constraints, energy storage technologies, battery management systems, energy management systems, and plant controller systems.
- Assist in sizing and configuring Energy Storage Systems for the project pipeline.
- Collaborate with business development and project finance teams on cost estimating and pricing recommendations based on technology selection and proposals.
- Support project management in commissioning and operational activities for energy storage systems.
- Contribute to preliminary design efforts and interconnection point assessments alongside project development, project engineering, and substation engineering teams.
- Develop layout optimization tools, incorporating feedback from operations, engineering, and construction.
- Participate in equipment selection, technical evaluation, and contracting for major energy storage components.
- Provide technical reviews of designs and construction interface points to project engineering and substation teams.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate suitability and support due diligence and permitting efforts.
- Stay current with codes, standards, and industry expectations related to energy storage projects.
- Manage relationships with equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms.
- Exhibit strong leadership, interpersonal, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Handle multiple projects and engineering initiatives simultaneously.
- Participate in site visits during construction and assist with the commissioning of energy storage systems.

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required; additional qualifications such as a master's degree or a Professional Engineer (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification are desirable.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in energy storage systems required; experience with solar power plants, substations, and utility systems is advantageous.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Required experience in utility-scale battery energy storage system design and installation.
- Strong preference for experience with commissioning, operations, and testing of bidirectional inverter control systems.
- Familiarity with Li-ion and other battery chemistry's, as well as HMI, EMS, and SCADA systems, is a plus.
- Experience working with OEM battery suppliers is beneficial.
- A track record of successful navigation through environmental permitting processes for energy storage system siting is a plus.
