We have a current opportunity for an experienced Protection & Control Engineer in Houston, Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for project engineering and design of substation projects from planning stages through detailed design and construction.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop detailed plans for substation and/or protection and control projects.
- Create, update, and refine one-line and three-line diagrams, protective relaying and control schematics, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel front views, equipment layouts and sections, cable and conduit schedules, SCADA systems, and material lists in accordance with Utility Client Procedures.
- Conduct calculations for studies and reports, including AC and DC system sizing, conduit fill, voltage drop, CT saturation, and Arc Flash analysis.
- Draft equipment specifications for procurement purposes.
- Review and ensure the quality of substation project documentation.
- Comply with Utility Client Procedures, including CAD standards and documentation formatting requirements.
- Supervise the project execution team, including junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Maintain effective and professional communication with project teams, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Professional Engineering (PE) License
- 10+ years of experience in utility substation and protection & controls design
- Experience developing relay settings is a plus
- Experience with ETAP, ASPEN, or PSEE is a plus
- Must be within a commutable distance to the Houston, TX office location or be open to relocate for the role
