Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Geotechnical Department Manager to lead our geotechnical team. As a part of our multi-disciplinary firm, the ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of geotechnical engineering projects, collaborating with various departments to provide innovative and high-quality solutions. This position offers the flexibility of remote work while being based in the Houston, TX area to accommodate local project demands.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Manage, mentor, and lead a team of geotechnical engineers and support staff.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including resource allocation, staffing, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development.
Project Management:
- Direct geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
- Oversee field investigations, laboratory testing programs, and data analysis.
- Ensure project deliverables comply with industry standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments (civil, structural, environmental) for multidisciplinary projects.
Client Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for geotechnical clients, maintaining relationships and ensuring satisfaction.
- Lead client meetings, presentations, and proposals for new business development.
- Identify and pursue new geotechnical opportunities and markets.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical guidance on geotechnical engineering design and analysis, including foundation design, slope stability, soil-structure interaction, and site characterization.
- Ensure quality control for technical documents, reports, and drawings.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, methodologies, and best practices in geotechnical engineering.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Experience:
- 12+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including project management and leadership roles.
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary projects and teams.
- Experience with remote team management is a plus.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas required.
- Additional certifications (e.g., PMP) are a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in geotechnical engineering software (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis, gINT).
- Ability to work independently and manage a remote team effectively.
- Strong business acumen with an ability to manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships.
