Responsibilities:
We are looking for a talented Electrical Controls Engineer to join our design team. The ideal candidate will thrive on challenging applications, possess exceptional attention to detail, work effectively in cross-functional teams, and apply their design skills to solve and implement automation solutions for our clients.
- Design and Installation: Develop and install control systems for automated equipment or test stands of intermediate to high complexity.
- Project Ownership: Manage all aspects of automation for assigned projects, with the ability to work independently being a plus.
- Key Tasks: Engage in project management, control system design, hardware design, PLC design, operator interface design, startup, installation, and service support.
- Technical Drawings: Create electrical schematics for control systems using drafting software.
- Programming: Develop custom programs and configurations for various projects.
- Innovation: Recommend, specify, and test new features for next-generation products.
- Support and Troubleshooting: Provide support and troubleshooting for automated systems, PLC programs, HMIs, and vision systems.
- Hands-On Work: Install panel components, wiring, cabling, sensors, and other discrete devices as needed.
- Pneumatics: Specify pneumatic components for basic operations.
- Documentation: Prepare concise technical documentation related to automation functionality.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related scientific field. Consideration will be given to applicants with degrees in Electrical Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Experience: 5-7 years of progressive experience in controls engineering.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of automation concepts, hardware, control panel design (up to 480VAC), and the application of appropriate automation technology.
- Drafting Skills: Ability to create comprehensive electrical schematic drawing packages using Draftsight or other drafting software.
- Hardware Specification: Proficiency in specifying hardware, including power distribution, controls hardware, sensors, PLCs, communications, safety relays, and signalling.
- PLC Programming: Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming and troubleshooting for Studio 5000 and RS Logix 500.
- HMI Programming: Proficiency in Rockwell FactoryTalk View Machine Edition HMI programming or equivalent.
- Materials Management: Development of bills of material.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills.
- Additional Skills: Experience with servo control, stepper motion, linear motion, and robotics is a plus. Cognex Insight Programming and Cognex VisionPro programming and integration experience is also beneficial. Visual Basic scripting for machine vision programming or equivalent programming skills is a plus.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Exposure to FDA-regulated environments, including validation experience, is advantageous. Basic understanding of 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP 5, and other regulatory guidance associated with computer/automation-based systems is a plus.
