This job opening is for a leading mechanical contractor, seeking a candidate to produce detailed constructible shop BIM/VDC models and drawings based on contract documents, design criteria, and/or instructions. The shop drawings must reflect strategic practices to maximize productivity throughout all phases of the construction process, including Setup & Backgrounds, Initial Detailing, System Modeling, Coordination, and Final Detailing. The role also involves troubleshooting BIM model queries as needed.
Responsibilities:
Setup and Backgrounds:
- Organize and utilize AEC data for use with shop drawings in accordance with company standards.
- Organize and build shop drawing files based on the project scope.
Initial Detailing/System Modeling:
- Generate 3D models of piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems in compliance with building codes, construction standards, contract documents, and project leadership instructions.
- Route systems per company standards.
- Ensure all components and systems are shown according to company standards.
- Identify and communicate issues needing clarification to project leadership.
Coordination:
- Overlay piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems with other trades.
- Re-route systems as required.
- Produce sign-off record drawings.
Final Detailing:
- Add remaining text, tags, and dimensions to complete shop drawings and supporting sketches/details per company standards.
- Prepare final piping/plumbing spool sheets/BOM or MAJ files.
- Implement revisions as required by QA/QC.
- May prepare equipment take-offs and buy-out item lists.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of trade apprenticeship with CAD/BIM training or AEC experience with BIM/CAD training.
- Working knowledge of construction practices with a focus on mechanical systems preferred.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, or Navisworks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of building codes for plumbing and piping industries preferred (if applicable to systems being drawn).
