A leading mechanical contractor based in New York, NY is seeking an experienced VDC Director with a strong mechanical background to lead and manage its Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) efforts. This role will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, implementation, and execution of VDC processes, ensuring seamless collaboration between preconstruction, design, engineering, and field teams. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical systems modeling, coordination, and fabrication-level detailing, along with a proven ability to drive innovation and efficiency through technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the company's VDC strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry best practices.
Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of VDC professionals, fostering collaboration across departments.
Project Coordination: Oversee the development and implementation of mechanical BIM models, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications.
Collaboration: Work closely with preconstruction, project management, MEP engineers, and field teams to ensure seamless integration of VDC processes.
Technology Implementation: Identify, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge VDC tools and workflows to enhance efficiency and project delivery.
Clash Detection & Coordination: Manage and optimize clash detection processes using platforms like Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, and other BIM software.
Quality Control: Ensure all mechanical models and drawings meet company and industry standards, facilitating smooth transitions from design to fabrication and installation.
Training & Development: Provide training and support to internal teams, ensuring the effective use of VDC technology and methodologies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for VDC-related matters, collaborating with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel.
Cost & Schedule Optimization: Utilize VDC processes to identify cost-saving opportunities and streamline project schedules.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in VDC/BIM, with a strong mechanical focus.
Proven track record of leading VDC teams in a mechanical contracting or construction environment.
Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and other BIM/VDC software.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication, and installation processes.
Experience with prefabrication, modular construction, and digital workflows is highly desirable.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and best practices related to MEP coordination.
