Job Description:
As a Transportation Engineer specializing in drainage and hydrology, you will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and implementation of transportation infrastructure projects in the Chicago area. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects that enhance mobility, safety, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive analyses of drainage systems and hydrological conditions to support the planning and design of transportation projects.
- Develop innovative drainage solutions that mitigate flood risks, manage stormwater runoff, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Utilize hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM) to simulate hydraulic processes and assess the performance of drainage systems.
- Prepare engineering designs, calculations, and technical specifications for drainage infrastructure, including culverts, storm sewers, retention ponds, and green infrastructure elements.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, clients, and community groups, to address concerns and incorporate feedback into project designs.
- Conduct site visits and field investigations to assess existing conditions, identify constraints, and propose feasible solutions.
- Ensure that transportation projects comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to drainage, hydrology, and environmental protection.
- Provide technical support during construction phases, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site inspections.
- Stay current with emerging trends, best practices, and technologies in transportation engineering, drainage design, and hydrological analysis.
- Mentor junior staff members and contribute to their professional development through knowledge sharing and guidance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Illinois, or the ability to obtain licensure within six months.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on drainage and hydrology.
- Proficiency in hydrological modeling software, such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, or similar programs.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working on transportation projects in the Chicago metropolitan area is desirable.
