About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Survey Party Chief to lead field operations for their surveying team in San Antonio. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering accurate and timely results.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations:
- Lead and oversee survey crews in performing boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Operate and maintain survey instruments such as GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality control procedures.
Project Coordination:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and deadlines.
- Review and interpret plans, plats, and other project documents.
- Communicate progress and any challenges encountered during fieldwork.
Team Leadership:
- Train and mentor survey crew members to enhance skills and ensure efficient performance.
- Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining a positive and productive team environment.
Equipment Management:
- Maintain and calibrate survey equipment to ensure accurate measurements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the field.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; an associate or bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a crew chief role.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in the use of GPS, total stations, and other modern surveying equipment.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar software is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of survey principles, techniques, and standards.
Certifications:
- LSIT or RPLS certification is desirable but not required.
- Valid Texas driver's license with a clean driving record.
Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
