The firm is looking to expand its close-knit, interdisciplinary team by adding a Structural Engineer. We are a premier Design-Build contractor with over 100 years of experience, having completed a diverse array of large and small commercial, industrial, educational, and health-care projects throughout various regions.
Role Overview
The candidate will report directly to, and collaborate closely with, our Managing Architect. Additionally, they will have the unique opportunity to work with our President, who is a Professional Engineer. Operating within a small to medium-sized design department, which includes internal architectural and civil design staff, the role involves partnering with existing designers to develop a variety of projects, ranging from preliminary design and pricing sketches to construction documents.
Role & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with designers to guide, design, analyze, and create structural drawings for new buildings, expansions, and renovations.
Design and analyze traditional steel buildings, including framing plans.
Develop designs for shallow foundations, slabs, retaining walls, pits, and steel reinforcement.
Partner with designers to create structural drawings and specifications needed for building permits.
Communicate and coordinate with architectural and civil staff on design plans.
Review and approve structural drawings for regulatory submissions.
Evaluate steel supplier shop drawings for adherence to design and construction standards.
Estimate material and labor costs, order, and coordinate delivery of pre-engineered metal buildings and accessories.
Conduct quantity takeoffs and develop self-perform labor and equipment cost estimates.
Estimate and purchase parts for other items like insulated metal wall panels, liner panels, insulation, roofing, trims, doors, anchor bolts, etc.
Collaborate with pre-engineered supplier engineers to identify cost-effective solutions.
Work with business development and design teams to establish optimal and cost-effective building layouts and details, identifying potential value engineering opportunities.
Engage with customers, code officials, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams across all regional offices.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain it within a year.
At least 3 years of experience in concrete and steel engineering work.
Proficient in CAD or Tekla; experience with Revit is a plus.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities and a solid understanding of construction, steel erection, shoring, and design economics.
Highly organized with excellent communication skills.
Deadline-driven, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.
