Job Title: Staking Technician
Salary: $60,000-75,000
Summary: An engineering firm is seeking a Staking Technician for a remote position with 70% travel required throughout the Southeast or Midwest. The Staking Technician will design medium voltage electric utility distribution facilities for cooperative and municipal clients. This department focuses on distribution and transmission design, offering services nationwide. They provide medium voltage design for overhead and underground systems, system planning and analysis, transmission and substation design, system modeling, load flow analysis, and consulting on electric power system design, construction, and operation.
The Staking Technician will be responsible forโฆ
- Specify pole height/class, pole top assemblies, and guying assemblies.
- Ensure adherence to engineering and construction standards, including RUS and NESC specifications, throughout the design and construction phases.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Prepare necessary permits.
- Understand property deeds and right-of-way easements and handle acquisition.
- Interface with landowners to secure easements or permissions for construction projects.
The Staking Technician should have the following qualifications:
- Technical degree, engineering technology degree (civil or electrical), or business degree with 2 years of experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- 2+ years of relevant distribution experience
- Ability to travel to project sites - 70% travel required
- Proficiency or experience with computerized staking software is required
- Ability to interpret RUS specifications and structural layouts from verbal and written communications.
- Familiarity with land descriptions, basic surveying, and electrical terminology.
- Ability to recognize electric utility construction units.
