A Leading Solar EPC is about to break ground on 4 Utility Scale Projects in Upstate New York in the Rochester and Syracuse area. This organization has been around since 2010 and has primarily been focusing on C&I and DG Solar Projects. Although, they have decided to re-brand and exclusively focus on Utility Scale Solar projects of at least 30MW. They are looking for individuals who will be able to help them advance the company into the next chapter!
Having solar experience is NOT a must, but they would expect for you to have large scale electrical experience on projects end-to-end.
Position Summary: The Senior Superintendent collaborates with the Project Operations and Field Management teams to cultivate strong client relationships, foster employee development, and oversee the delivery of safe, high-quality, cost-effective, and timely renewable energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively builds a high-performing team by recruiting, interviewing, evaluating, mentoring, and retaining top talent.
- Provides on-site leadership, motivating and guiding the project team to achieve project objectives while ensuring individual responsibilities and project milestones are met.
- Manages multiple project sites by ensuring consistent site visits, ideally on a daily basis, and regular oversight of each location.
- Leads the implementation of safety protocols and policies, addressing any non-compliance issues among employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Executes the project in alignment with the Quality Management System, identifying and addressing potential issues that may lead to rework.
- Oversees essential project management functions, including progress tracking, financial forecasting, document control, problem resolution, dispute management, design troubleshooting, and value engineering.
- Establishes, communicates, and enforces production targets and schedules for subcontractors.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager to develop the project schedule and ensures the team adheres to it. Develops a four-week lookahead schedule that supports daily project progress and resource allocation.
- Works with direct reports to ensure the four-week lookahead schedule is accurately developed and adhered to on a weekly basis.
- Strives to exceed the project's cost budget by applying effective cost management practices for subcontractors, materials, equipment, and related expenses.
- Trains the project team in areas such as planning, surveying, blueprint interpretation, productivity, efficient crew sizing, quality standards, and safety to ensure timely and profitable project completion.
- Promotes communication through daily huddles and weekly check-ins, resolving issues and sharing insights to enhance project efficiency and profitability.
- Conducts regular quality inspections and checks on all project activities and work performed.
- Reviews daily reports from Foremen and Subcontractors for accuracy, including hours worked, time coding, production rates, and activity summaries.
- Understands the key terms of the Prime Contract with the Owner and addresses any deviations.
- Holds subcontractors accountable to the terms of their agreements and company standards.
- This role is field-based at project construction sites.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in the construction industry with increasing levels of responsibility.
- 5+ years of experience managing self-perform work with multiple crews (50+ craft workers and equipment operators). Previous experience as a Foreman or holding a Master Electrical License is advantageous.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to manage a diverse team.
- Proven success in leading complex construction projects with varied scopes and demanding schedules.
- Excellent customer service skills with a demonstrated ability to manage challenging client relationships.
- Expertise in multiple construction disciplines (electrical, earthwork, utilities, structures, mechanical, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
- Strong teamwork, communication, leadership, interpersonal skills, and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and P3/P6 Primavera software.
- Willingness to travel or relocate to project sites within the United States every 3-12 months.
- High School diploma or GED required.
