Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Stormwater Engineer to join their team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an individual who desires increasing responsibilities in the design, management, and marketing of water resources engineering services. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in stormwater management, drainage design, modeling, and permitting, particularly within the context of Virginia regulations. As part of a growing multi-discipline engineering office, this position is integral to the expansion of the water resources discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of drainage and stormwater management designs in accordance with client specifications and regulatory guidelines, utilizing advanced design software and tools.
- Oversee stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and NPDES permitting for transportation and development projects.
- Conduct watershed studies and perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to support the design process.
- Prepare contract documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Design and inspect traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and BMPs, ensuring compliance in both urban and rural environments.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, government agencies, and project teams from various technical disciplines.
- Plan, schedule, and manage engineering work for the stormwater component of multi-phase projects.
- Analyze and utilize survey data, maps, blueprints, and aerial imagery to support project planning and design.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in stormwater design, drainage systems, erosion and sediment control, and related permitting requirements, particularly for Virginia-based projects.
- Proficiency with design tools and software such as Microstation, OpenRoads Designer, Civil 3D, GEOPAK/SUDA, ArcGIS, and HEC-RAS.
- Knowledge of Virginia's stormwater regulations, MS4 compliance, TMDL goals, and runoff reduction methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Required Experience:
- Virginia Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain one within six months.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- At least 10 years of experience in civil engineering, with a minimum of 5 years in water resources and stormwater engineering.
- Experience with stormwater management, hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS preferred), and erosion control design.
- Familiarity with stormwater regulations and permitting at local, state, and federal levels.
- Experience working on Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and other local or state projects.
- Certification in Erosion & Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspection/Plan Review is a plus.
Working Conditions: This position follows a hybrid work model, offering flexibility with a combination of remote and in-office work. Fieldwork may be required occasionally, involving outdoor work in varying conditions. The office environment is typically sedentary but may require occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs).
