Position Overview: We are seeking a Senior Regulatory Permitting Specialist with expertise in aquatic resource permitting to join the team at a natural resources focused consulting firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in navigating complex regulatory frameworks, particularly related to wetlands, waterways, and aquatic habitats in the Bay Area and surrounding regions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the aquatic resource permitting process for a variety of projects, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of project impacts on aquatic ecosystems, including wetlands, streams, and sensitive habitats.
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize environmental impacts and secure necessary permits and approvals.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to facilitate project approvals and compliance.
- Provide expert guidance on regulatory requirements and best practices related to aquatic resources.
- Stay abreast of evolving environmental regulations and policies affecting aquatic resources and integrate new requirements into project planning and execution.
- Prepare and review permit applications, environmental impact assessments, mitigation plans, and related technical documents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in regulatory permitting and environmental compliance, with a focus on aquatic resources.
- In-depth knowledge of federal (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act) and California state environmental regulations.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex permitting projects, particularly in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in technical report writing and presenting to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
