A leading Solar IPP Developer in the Southeast is looking to bring on a HSSE professional to help out with their upcoming utility scale solar projects. This position can be done remotely with a PREFERENCE OF THE SOUTH EAST since this will require travel to the project sites as needed.
Overview:
This role focuses on assessing and analyzing workplace activities and potential risks to support efforts aimed at identifying, managing, and eliminating hazardous conditions that could impact workers, property, the environment, and the community during the construction of solar facilities across the United States. The position involves training project management staff on health, safety, security, and environmental policies, procedures, and HSSE management systems. Ensuring adherence to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding health, safety, and environmental standards is essential, as well as maintaining necessary documentation in line with established protocols. The role promotes a culture of compliance and aims to achieve the company's HSSE performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess contractor field operations through on-site evaluations for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Provide valuable feedback, leadership, and support to project management teams.
- Assist project management in enhancing safety and environmental practices and procedures.
- Review, contribute to, and participate in the creation of incident reports and safety communications.
- Offer technical and professional support to address unsafe behaviors, conditions, and environmental issues.
- Prepare and present updates on safety activities, reports, and studies.
- Draft and evaluate written programs, job hazard assessments, personal protective equipment evaluations, and other elements of health, safety, and environmental programs.
- Create and update training materials to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Lead investigations of HSSE events initiated by the company.
- Communicate responsibly and effectively with vendors and partners.
- Prioritize tasks to achieve project objectives, including deadlines, cost targets, and schedules.
- Collaborate effectively as a team player, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Represent the organization professionally in interactions with neighbors, vendors, utilities, local officials, and other project stakeholders.
- Mentor less experienced members of the HSSE team.
- Assist in auditing the company's processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting To: Construction HSSE Manager
Required Qualifications:
- Willingness to travel up to 75%.
- In-depth knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations and industry health and safety standards.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety and high voltage, including compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, and Quickbase.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently with minimal supervision.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience (10 years) in lieu of a degree.
- Completion of the 500 or 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards.
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in EHS program management within the construction industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in electrical utilities and/or solar energy generation.
- Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, biology, chemistry, environmental science, or a related field.
- CPESC Certification.
- Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CHST.
