Position Overview:
A forward-thinking and client-facing Senior Controls Engineer/Project Manager is needed to support the operation and maintenance of Distributed Control Systems within a mission-critical facility in Arlington, VA. This role offers variety and technical challenges, as well as the opportunity to manage projects that integrate a diverse range of building automation systems, industrial controls, sub-metering systems, and operator interfaces. The position requires strategic thinking and a commitment to exceeding client expectations.
Examples of Project Types:
- Adding instrumentation and integrating it into control systems.
- Replacing control system panels with updated equipment.
- Troubleshooting non-functional devices and proposing solutions.
- Reviewing systems to recommend necessary spare parts for purchase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for control systems and provide consultation to stakeholders.
- Lead and mentor a team of talented controls engineers and technicians.
- Design and implement small control system continuous improvement projects.
- Develop and modify PLC and HMI system programming.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot controls-related issues.
- Manage the field office operations, including:
- Coordinating schedules for preventive maintenance and other work with customers and technicians.
- Reviewing all generated reports.
- Overseeing the activities of Control Technicians.
- Supporting and supervising technicians in the calibration and maintenance of control devices, such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters, motor starters, VFDs, analyzers, and valves.
- Provide software support for PLC systems, including regular patch updates and version upgrades for Allen Bradley or other PLC manufacturers.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and translate them into effective engineering solutions.
- Ensure all projects comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
- At least 5 years of experience working with industrial controls, specifically Allen Bradley/Rockwell hardware.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical, etc.) or at least 10 years of relevant work experience.
- Proficiency with HMI/SCADA systems is required, with a preference for ICONICS GENESIS64 HMI software.
- Experience with boilers, chillers, pumps, valves, building automation, and related systems.
- Management experience is a plus.
- Control system design experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with teams and clients.
- Strong understanding of project management principles and practices.
- Ability to think strategically and align engineering solutions with client goals.
