Job Title: Engineering Manager - Laboratory Testing and Special Inspection Services
Salary Range: $120,000 - $200,000 per year
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee laboratory testing and special inspection services for DSA/OSHPD projects.
- Supervise, review, and monitor the work of materials testing and inspection staff.
- Evaluate field and laboratory reports, as well as plans and specifications.
- Develop materials testing proposals, including estimating quantities for inspection and testing.
- Lead projects from start to finish, ensuring client expectations for technical quality, budget, and schedule are met.
- Train and mentor staff, and conduct annual performance reviews.
- Track and assess progress towards performance goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction materials testing and inspection.
- At least 2 years of experience in special inspections or supervising special inspection services.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, think creatively, and solve problems.
- Proven experience in reviewing technical specifications and field/laboratory reports.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards, with a preference for DSA and OSHPD experience.
- Familiarity with Caltrans, AASHTO, and ASTM test methods for construction materials such as HMA, aggregate, soils, steel, masonry, and concrete.
- Experience in reviewing concrete/asphalt mix designs.
- Experience in overseeing materials testing and inspections.
- Comprehensive understanding of accreditation policies for agencies like Caltrans, DSA, AMRL, CCRL, IAS, etc.
- Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant computer applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred: Strong background and experience in geotechnical engineering.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Registered Civil Engineer (PE) in California.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
