Senior Bridge Engineer
Herndon or Richmond, VA
Seeking a motivated individual for increasing responsibilities in bridge and transportation structure projects at local, state, and federal levels. Responsibilities include designing projects per AASHTO, VDOT, and client specifications; preparing and checking plans; detailing structural components; preparing cost estimates and specifications; reviewing shop drawings; and performing condition assessments and inspections.
Essential Functions:
Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering phases of projects.
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, and other data.
Perform design computations and use design software.
Develop construction cost estimates.
Prepare engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support.
Develop extra work order requests and proposals.
Attend client meetings.
Coordinate with internal team members to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Required Skills:
Analyze statically determinate and indeterminate structures.
Knowledge of structural design principles for steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete.
Familiarity with structural detailing practices.
Experience with construction cost estimating.
Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication skills.
Required Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Virginia PE license.
10+ years of experience in highway bridge and structure design.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in in-service bridge safety inspections.
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures.
Working Conditions:
75% of work performed in a general office environment.
