A dynamic and motivated mid-to-senior level Construction Consultant is sought to join a team of multi-disciplinary professionals. The ideal candidate should have experience conducting site visits, performing condition assessments, documenting findings, defining scopes of work, and analyzing estimated repair and replacement costs across commercial, residential, industrial, marine, and inland structures. Proficiency in reviewing documents, analyzing schedules, contracts, change orders, and construction reports, as well as authoring technical reports and contributing to construction litigation, is preferred.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct field assessments to document as-built conditions and damage resulting from natural events (wind, water, fire, earth movement, etc.) or human-related factors (design and construction errors/omissions). Events may include large-scale catastrophes such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, freezes, and earthquakes.
- Evaluate repair estimates to ensure accuracy in scope and pricing.
- Utilize historical data and pricing to develop and assess repair and replacement cost estimates.
- Identify construction risks and associated costs to refine project estimates.
- Develop rough order of magnitude cost estimates, including potential hidden risks.
- Assist in preparing work scopes, bid instructions, bid forms, and solicitation of relevant information.
- Conduct research to support findings and opinions.
- Communicate effectively with clients, governing officials, contractors, and consultants.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely execution within budget constraints.
- Maintain and cultivate client relationships.
- Availability for travel, sometimes on short notice.
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience across a variety of public and private projects, including those valued at $5 million or more.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field, or equivalent industry experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills for preparing detailed and conceptual construction cost estimates.
- Experience in property loss estimating is a plus.
- Solid project management abilities.
- Proficiency in Xactimate, RS Means, Microsoft Excel and Word, on-screen takeoff software, and other construction estimating tools.
- Experience in the restoration industry is advantageous.
- Knowledge of fire and smoke damage restoration, structural drying, mold remediation, and clerk-of-works services is desirable.
- Strong mathematical and computational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
