Our client, a leading developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable projects, is on a mission to responsibly decarbonize the grid while advancing affordable, sustainable, and efficient energy markets across North America. With strong financial backing and a proven track record since launching their first energy storage project in 2018, they are at the forefront of the energy transition. Currently, they have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development and multiple projects in operation or construction across North America.
Position: Project Engineer
The Project Engineer will play a critical role in leading commissioning efforts across the company's projects, ensuring smooth transitions from execution to operations. This includes managing commissioning activities, reviewing test results, and collaborating with contractors and vendors to deliver innovative energy solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Perform early-stage engineering for utility-scale energy storage projects.
- Review project design drawings from EPC contractors, vendors, and utility partners.
- Participate in regular calls with EPC contractors, vendors, and utility stakeholders.
- Work with supervisors and 3rd-party engineers to support EPC and balance-of-plant designs.
- Assist the Procurement and Pre-Construction teams in reviewing and validating technical exhibits in contracts.
- Oversee commissioning efforts for BESS, Solar PV, and Hybrid projects across the portfolio.
- Coordinate commissioning and testing with project contractors, equipment vendors, AHJs, and utilities/grid operators.
- Review and validate commissioning test results and documents generated by project contractors and equipment vendors.
- Develop in-house tools and templates to standardize processes and reduce repetitive tasks.
- Support the transition of projects from execution to operations.
- Perform ad hoc projects and duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 2-3 years of experience in project engineering for utility-scale BESS, PV, and hybrid projects.
- Strong fundamentals in Electrical Engineering with the ability to self-perform varied scopes of work.
- Solid understanding of BESS and PV project design, commissioning procedures, and processes.
- Familiarity with general electrical and substation commissioning procedures and processes.
- Knowledge of grid operator requirements such as ERCOT and CAISO metering and commissioning processes.
- Familiarity with various BESS and PV technologies.
- High-level understanding of grid-scale renewable energy development, specifically energy storage and PV systems.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills to handle multiple projects and engineering initiatives.
Remote (USA).
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Occasional travel (less than 15%) to project sites during critical commissioning phases.
