Principal Electrical Engineer - Power Utility Sector
A privately held consulting firm seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects related to municipal electrical systems, including the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of power distribution systems, underground distribution lines, street lighting, and more. You will learn directly from our current Director of Electrical Engineering, with the goal of growing into this leadership role within a couple of years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design and review of detailed construction drawings for electrical distribution systems, including underground lines, transformation facilities, and substations.
- Lead the planning and expansion efforts for distribution systems, ensuring service to new loads and efficient infrastructure growth.
- Manage the development of electrical equipment specifications and materials lists for system upgrades and new installations.
- Direct the design and implementation of street lighting systems, including all necessary specifications and drawings.
- Investigate transformer loads and assess electrical service requirements to identify overloaded transformers and recommend replacements.
- Lead and manage projects from planning through to completion, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
- Prepare reports, lead meetings, and present findings to both management and clients.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by preparing and reviewing reports for governmental agencies.
- Perform site inspections to monitor construction progress and verify existing conditions.
- Collaborate with team members and clients, contributing to the success of electrical distribution system operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably with a focus on Power Systems) from an accredited institution.
- At least 4 years of experience in electrical utility power distribution or related consulting fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of electrical drafting methods and tools. Experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
- Familiarity with system analysis software such as ETAP and SKM is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A Professional Electrical Engineer license is required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
- Valid driver's license for occasional site visits.
Compensation:
- Hourly rate: $55.00 - $89.00, depending on experience and qualifications.
