Role Overview: As the Office Lead, you will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction and growth of the Northern Virginia Business Unit for our client. You will be part of the Leadership Team, driving business development, managing high-profile projects, and leading a diverse team to deliver exceptional results in transportation engineering and planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
* Serve as a core member of the Leadership Team, providing strategic guidance for business growth.
* Develop and implement a clear vision for expanding the project portfolio and entering new markets.
* Prepare and execute a comprehensive growth strategy for the Northern Virginia market.
* Attend Leadership Team meetings and provide regular progress reports.
Business Development:
* Identify and pursue new growth opportunities.
* Develop and refine business plans targeting public sector clients (VDOT, MPOs, Cities, etc.) and private sector clients.
* Respond to RFQs/RFPs and prepare proposals, including presenting at interviews.
* Leverage professional relationships for teaming on projects.
Project Management:
* Lead and manage transportation projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
* Oversee project budgets, invoicing, and progress reporting.
* Coordinate with stakeholders, develop concepts, and recommend solutions.
* Collaborate with support staff and directors to ensure successful project delivery.
Team Management:
* Mentor and develop staff, fostering growth in project management and business development.
* Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and identify training opportunities for junior staff.
* Promote staff retention and provide clear pathways for career advancement.
Client and Public Engagement:
* Attend agency meetings and professional conferences.
* Present on specific topics and engage with the public on project-related issues.
Knowledge and Background Requirements:
* Minimum of 15 years' experience in traffic and transportation planning, analysis, and design.
* Strong background in both public and private sector projects.
* Professional engineering license in Virginia or ability to obtain reciprocity within 3 months.
* Proven business development and project management track record.
* Experience working with VDOT, MPOs, and municipal entities.
* Ability to travel and work outside regular hours if needed.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design/CADD platforms.
* Knowledge of Synchro, VISSUM, and relevant analysis software is a plus.
