Position Summary:
The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical, piping, and HVAC projects. This role requires extensive experience in mechanical contracting, the ability to analyze project specifications, and proficiency in estimating software. The ideal candidate has a strong background in mechanical systems and estimating methodologies and is able to work efficiently in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical, piping, and HVAC projects.
Develop take-offs and pricing for labor, materials, and subcontractors.
Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare accurate and competitive bids.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project scope and requirements.
Assess subcontractor and supplier bids and negotiate pricing as needed.
Provide detailed reports and presentations on estimate breakdowns and cost analysis.
Assist in value engineering and cost-saving strategies to optimize project budgets.
Stay updated on industry trends, labor costs, material pricing, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanical estimator with a mechanical contractor.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems in commercial, healthcare, and data center projects.
Experience estimating projects of various sizes, including multi-million-dollar contracts.
Proficiency in estimating software such as Trimble AutoBid, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, QuoteSoft, or equivalent.
Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and mathematical skills.
Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining strong communication with the team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Bluebeam Revu.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Accubid, Estimation MEP, or other advanced estimating tools.
Knowledge of BIM coordination and VDC processes is a plus.
Experience with estimating for large-scale, complex mechanical projects.
