Role Overview
As a structural engineer, you will conduct field work to document as-built conditions and assess damage to structural systems caused by natural events (such as floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes) and human-induced issues (like design and construction errors). You will utilize building codes and technical expertise to establish repair scope recommendations and perform cause and origin analyses. Your role includes evaluating design drawings and documentation, communicating with clients, interfacing with code officials and contractors, and providing detailed reports. You will manage multiple project assignments, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget, while also developing and maintaining client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Perform field investigations to record as-built conditions and assess damage to structural systems caused by natural events and other factors (like design and construction errors).
- Apply building codes and technical expertise to develop repair scope recommendations and conduct cause and origin analyses.
- Review and evaluate design drawings and related documentation.
- Communicate effectively with clients, coordinate with code officials and contractors, and prepare detailed reports.
- Oversee multiple project assignments, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Be prepared to travel on short notice as required
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois; additional state licenses are advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering design or related fields with an interest in Forensic
- Familiarity with national building and construction codes (ICC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS, etc.).
- Proficient in structural engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
- Experience with various types of construction is beneficial.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in litigation support, including providing expert testimony, is preferred.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States and possess a good driving record

- Salary Range $105,000-$140,000 (dependent on experience level in structural or forensic engineering)
