Estimator
The Estimator will play a critical role in preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial projects, working closely with the project management and field teams to ensure all estimates align with project requirements and company standards. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for sitework, excavation, and earthwork projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to assess the scope of work and develop estimates accordingly.
- Utilize estimating software (such as Procore, OST, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, and Takeoff) to create and manage estimates.
- Analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure alignment with project specifications and budgetary goals.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to refine estimates and identify opportunities for cost savings through value engineering.
- Assist with proposal preparation, including pricing, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct risk assessments to account for potential challenges or changes that may affect project costs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, market conditions, and pricing trends to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
- Support business development efforts by participating in presentations and client meetings when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on sitework and excavation projects.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (Procore, OST, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam) and strong skills in Excel and other relevant tools.
- Construction Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes, particularly in the earthwork and sitework sectors.
- Analytical Ability: Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze construction documents and develop accurate cost breakdowns.
- Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Problem Solving: Resourceful and capable of identifying cost-effective solutions while maintaining project quality.
- Communication: Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, to present estimates and participate in negotiations.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with complex bid processes, including hard dollar, public, and negotiated bids.
- Strong understanding of sitework-specific construction activities such as excavation, grading, drainage, and utilities.
- Experience working within a collaborative team environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
