Field / Design Engineer Reporting to: General Manager Full-time/Salaried-Exempt/Learned Professional
The function of our Design Engineer is to work with the Sales Team and our valued clients to assess audio visual and communication requirements for meeting spaces, offices, and digital signage applications/projects. They must occasionally work with offsite studio engineers and designers to develop and implement visual solutions in the studio. They will be responsible for generating job documentation required to support system fabrication, installation and submittals. They should be qualified to perform final system commissioning, as well as client training.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES include, but are not limited to: ๏ท Daily creation and design of AV systems with accompanying line drawings (Visio or AutoCAD), elevations, accurate equipment lists and scope of work (SOW), in conjunction with sales team. These must include estimates of all labor needs.
๏ท Attendance with client site walk-throughs, as needed and preparation of a full write-up following same.
๏ท Produce a Bill of Materials/Budget for each project assigned, which includes: o A relatively accurate account of all equipment, hardware and cabling o Estimate for Subcontracted programming required for System o Estimate for labor schedule for both in house and/or union labor (where applicable) o Summary of project management and engineering costs o Estimate for travel expenses (where applicable) o Calculation reflecting margin for goods and services
๏ท Assist in researching new equipment to help keep the company up to date with the latest equipment by working to help create working, reliable, and reputable system designs.
๏ท Work with sales and technical staff through the completion of a project and update all drawings to final as-builds after installations are complete.
๏ท Work with project team to fully verify system functionality.
๏ท Provide sales and technical staff with engineering support on both a pre- and post-sale basis.
๏ท Support sales staff with technical communications internally and with clients directly to allow them to have a clear understanding of the technology at hand.
๏ท Be effective at moving easily between different levels of responsibility day to day; multitasking as an engineer and client relations liaison.
๏ท Occasionally manage internal tech staff and direct/manage third party staff accordingly.
๏ท Handle requests when asked by client using your tenured experienced/professional judgement.
๏ท Maintain knowledge of current and new technologies so that you can identify and recommend the proper technologies to/for our clientele.
๏ท If workflow slows in engineering, assist field engineers at client's locations on an as needed basis.
๏ท Manage expenses according to VVI standards and process them properly.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:
๏ท AVIXA CTS preferred
๏ท Minimum of three years working experience in the professional audio-visual field
๏ท Fully experienced in AutoCAD and/or Visio
๏ท Self-motivated and organized individual who can multi-task and enjoys working with a team as well as on their own
๏ท Strong client and service-focused attitude with a proficiency in both written and verbal communications
๏ท Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees as well as clients
๏ท Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation and drawing packages
๏ท Skilled in all basic computer programs with a full understanding of networks, networking equipment, IP addresses, etc.
๏ท Must have a valid driver's license
๏ท Strong knowledge of the Office environment required
๏ท Strong Microsoft Office Suite Skills
๏ท Typing minimum of 50 WPM
๏ท Current with all Certifications
๏ท Effective at problem solving
๏ท Demonstrates the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
๏ท Copes well with conflict and stress in a crisis situation
๏ท May be required to travel
