Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental (Water/Wastewater) Project Engineer with over 5 years of experience to join our Des Moines, Iowa office. The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license and possess expertise in designing and managing projects related to water and wastewater treatment facilities, sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, and related infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
Engineering Design:
- Create detailed designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, and sewer systems to meet client specifications.
- Perform water quality analyses and hydraulic modeling to ensure system efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Update designs as needed based on site reviews, studies, or changing project requirements.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Review draft designs and reports for adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Sign off on completed designs to ensure alignment with firm policies and best practices.
Field Work and Assessments:
- Perform site reviews to validate alignment with location specifications.
- Update and adapt design requirements based on site conditions and findings.
Technical Leadership:
- Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
- Contribute to technical knowledge management (TKM) by developing white papers, technical design documentation, and case studies.
Client Engagement and Business Development:
- Collaborate with sales teams to prepare proposals in response to client RFPs.
- Meet with current and prospective clients to assess their needs and identify opportunities for new projects.
- Represent the firm at conferences and symposia to promote services and build relationships.
Project Supervision:
- Provide oversight and supervision for junior engineers on project work.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering (or a related discipline).
Licensure:
- Must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa (or ability to obtain it within 6 months).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater project engineering.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in design software:
- Required: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, WaterCAD, SewerCAD.
- Preferred: ArcGIS, InfoWater, SWMM (Storm Water Management Model), and HEC-RAS.
- Familiarity with water quality analysis and modeling tools.
- Experience with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project).
- Proficiency in design software:
Communication and Collaboration:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting designs and concepts to clients.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
