Planning Engineer
Work Location: Butte, MT Preferred; will consider other major service locations within in Montana Service territory

About this position: The Planning Engineer is tasked with finding innovative engineering solutions to solve complex issues of today's electric grid and designing the grid of the future. This position is part of a dynamic planning team that performs transmission planning studies and related activities across Montana and South Dakota. This Engineer should be able to work both independently and be a high contributor to the team.
Desired Qualifications
* Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
* S. Engineering degree required, Electrical Engineering preferred
* Basic understanding of electric system and transmission system fundamentals
* Professional Engineer's Licensure or ability to obtain licensure
* Excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
* Computer programming skills preferred
* Knowledge & experience with power system modeling software preferred (such as PSS/E)
- other load flow studies accepted (ETAP, MailSoft, etc.)
* Excellent communication skills both oral and written required
* Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
* Company travel and extended hours may be required
About this Job - included but not limited to
- Model, perform transmission studies, propose solutions to problems, and plan transmission system for Montana and South Dakota
- Develop base cases
- Conduct transmission system studies using power flow and stability simulation software
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards
- Prepare reports and present results to management
- Participate in RTO groups
