Overview:
The Controls Engineer, reporting to the Director of Automation and Controls, plays a crucial role in supporting our operations in California, Texas, New Jersey, and Mexico. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop, maintain, and enhance our automation and electrical systems. The role involves significant interaction with organizational leadership and focuses on system integration and infrastructure development in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design, test, and develop automated systems to meet business requirements.
- Develop components of our electrical systems to support facility growth.
- Recommend and implement upgrades for existing systems and programs.
- Create diagrams, flowcharts, and models to illustrate infrastructure needs for various installations.
- Document system and application aspects for future reference and maintenance.
- Design, test, and develop control systems aligned with business objectives.
- Develop project elements that integrate well with cross-functional processes.
- Refine development processes to address client or consumer feedback.
- Verify and commission electrical control panels.
- Support electrical distribution systems for packing houses.
- Promote electrical safety culture (Arc Flash - NFPA70E).
- Manage and maintain site electrical one-line drawings.
- Design, install, and support Motor Control Centers (MCCs).
- Champion power monitoring systems within the business.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with 1-2 years of experience in automation systems development, or 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and committed to quality.
- Ability to recommend and implement system and program upgrades.
- Ensure process functionality during maintenance and testing of automation and electrical systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Exposure to and understanding of instrumentation and electrical safety practices.
- Experience and proficiency in the following areas:
- Electrical: Control panels, distribution systems, electrical safety (Arc Flash - NFPA70E), electrical fault studies, site electrical one-line diagrams, MCC design, power monitoring systems.
- PLC systems and hardware: Relay logic, wiring I/O in control systems, wireless communications, instrumentation wiring and programming, control logic understanding.
- Automation components: VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces).
- Supervisory systems: LAN, switches, routers, cabling, wireless, NIC, historian, server, clients, web reports, SQL, query, script, connect string, MES, WIP, BOM, user interface.
- HMI systems: Wonderware, SMC, InTouch Viewer, InTouch Maker, ArchestrA IDE, ArchestrA Object Viewer.
Compensation:
- Pay range: $100,000 - $130,000, plus a discretionary yearly bonus of up to 15%. Final compensation will depend on skills and experience.
