Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Heavy Civil Superintendent to oversee and manage large-scale civil construction projects in the South Alabama area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy civil construction, including roadways, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure projects. As a key member of the construction management team, the Heavy Civil Superintendent will ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Oversight: Supervise and manage daily operations on construction sites, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, safety standards, and quality control procedures.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor field staff, including laborers, equipment operators, subcontractors, and vendors. Ensure high levels of morale, productivity, and communication.
- Scheduling & Planning: Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to develop and maintain detailed project schedules. Manage resources effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Quality Control: Ensure that work is performed in compliance with design specifications and quality standards. Conduct regular site inspections and manage quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs.
- Budget & Cost Control: Monitor project costs, track budgets, and manage resources efficiently. Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and proactively address any issues that may impact the project's financial performance.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication: Maintain regular communication with clients, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders. Provide updates on project progress, challenges, and potential risks.
- Problem Solving: Resolve construction issues in a timely manner, including addressing project delays, material shortages, or safety concerns, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines.
- Documentation: Ensure all documentation is complete, including daily reports, safety logs, inspections, and time sheets.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil construction, specifically in roadways, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
- Education: High school diploma or GED; a degree or certifications in construction management, civil engineering, or related field is a plus.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, OSHA standards, and quality control practices.
- Proficient in construction software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required; additional certifications in first aid/CPR or heavy equipment operation are a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, lift heavy materials, and navigate construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the South Alabama region or similar geographical areas.
- Knowledge of local regulations and permitting processes.
- Experience managing large-scale infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, or utility installations.
