As one of the few firms offering fully integrated turnkey solutions in the energy storage industry, they have the expertise to manage a variety of storage technologies, including lithium-ion, flow, and mechanical storage systems. They are seeking a well-rounded and driven Senior Electrical Engineer with a focus on Energy Storage. This role is ideal for a seller-doer who enjoys blending engineering, business development, and project management responsibilities. Strong technical expertise and interpersonal skills are essential.
The Energy Storage team specializes in renewable power generation and storage for both the utility-scale and commercial/industrial markets, offering a broad range of design and project execution experience. Their services span from battery sizing and use case evaluation to full detailed design. Current projects range from 1MW to 500MW with interconnection voltages between 480V and 500kV, covering both standalone storage and hybrid storage systems integrated with solar and wind.
They are looking for engineers passionate about renewable energy to contribute to the design and execution of complex energy storage projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate energy storage technology and guide clients on selecting the best technology for their applications.
- Support marketing, project development, and proposal creation for energy storage projects.
- Engage with clients and external stakeholders regularly.
- Develop project scope, conceptual designs, and execution plans.
- Prepare cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets.
- Manage energy storage consulting projects and lead multi-discipline engineering efforts on construction projects.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Oversee the development of construction documents for energy storage facility electrical systems.
- Manage equipment specifications, procurement, and factory acceptance testing of batteries, inverters, and related components.
- Coordinate design efforts across multiple locations.
- Support field engineering during construction and commissioning phases.
- Travel approximately 20% to client offices and field sites, with some international travel possible.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
- 7+ years of electrical engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Strong experience in utility-scale and large industrial energy storage projects, including:
- Battery technology selection and sizing
- One-line development and site layout
- Inverter selection
- Cable ampacity calculations
- Grounding and protective relaying system design
- Construction administration
- Proficiency with SKM Power Tools, ETAP, or similar software is preferred.
- Field construction and commissioning experience is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Consulting engineering experience preferred.
- Ability to travel as needed.
