Job Overview:
As a Heavy Civil Change Manager, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing all changes to scope, schedule, and cost during the course of heavy civil construction projects. You will work closely with project managers, subcontractors, clients, and other key stakeholders to evaluate and implement changes, ensuring that all adjustments align with project goals, timelines, and budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Change Order Management: Oversee and manage the identification, development, and implementation of change orders for heavy civil projects.
- Cost and Schedule Analysis: Evaluate the impact of changes on project costs and schedules, ensuring that all adjustments are properly documented and that clients are informed in a timely manner.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and subcontractors to assess the scope of changes and develop solutions that maintain project quality and efficiency.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with project changes, including potential cost overruns or delays.
- Client Communication: Maintain strong relationships with clients by providing timely updates on changes, addressing concerns, and ensuring that client expectations are met.
- Documentation: Ensure that all changes are properly documented, including all relevant paperwork, reports, and correspondence.
- Negotiation: Negotiate with clients and subcontractors to reach mutually beneficial agreements on changes in scope, cost, and timeline.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies, regarding changes on construction projects.
Experience Needed:
- 5+ years of experience in construction management, specifically in heavy civil projects (e.g., roads, bridges, utilities, earthworks).
- Proven experience managing change orders on large-scale construction projects, including scope changes, delays, and cost modifications.
- Experience working with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to implement changes effectively.
- Familiarity with project scheduling software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, Microsoft Project) and cost management systems.
- Strong knowledge of contract management and construction law, with an ability to interpret contract documents and agreements.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
Qualifications Needed:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Certification in Project Management (PMP) or related industry certifications preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of heavy civil construction processes, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and recommend solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and project management software.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to job sites as needed.
