Position Description
We are looking for passionate consultants interested in designing and consulting on building enclosures, including roofs, fenestration, exterior walls, and waterproofing. Candidates should be eager to further their education in the building enclosure field. Founded in the 1980's, this design and quality assurance observation firm specializes in all aspects of building enclosures. The firm listens to clients' concerns to create customized design solutions for a wide range of buildings, from historic cathedrals to modern skyscrapers. Clients include Fortune 500 companies, churches, and various government entities. Projects primarily focus on diagnosing and rehabilitating existing buildings, as well as incorporating sustainable solutions for new constructions. The firm is committed to solving clients' problems through investigations, design solutions, commissioning, and quality assurance observation during construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consulting services on various topics, including third-party reviews of construction documents and specifications for building envelope components.
- Analyze building component failures and develop assessment methods and investigation procedures.
- Write and review reports and documentation.
- Oversee the creation of construction documents for building envelope repair and replacement.
- Utilize marketing and business development skills to sell and perform professional services, including developing project scopes, cost estimates, writing proposals, and ensuring compliance with estimates.
- Make presentations to professional organizations and clients as part of marketing efforts.
- Occasional travel required.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to describe observations, analysis, testing, and conclusions based on building codes, industry standards, and professional experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Valid Driver's License and clean driving record.
- Ability to visit project or job sites, which may involve working in tightly enclosed areas, on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding. The job can be physically demanding and involves interior and exterior work in all weather conditions.
Experience and Qualifications
- Degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college preferred but not required.
- Equivalent education and experience in the building enclosure industry.
- Interest in Building Sciences and building enclosures required.
- Experience in detailing, construction, and construction administration phases of building projects.
- Experience or interest in learning about building systems, waterproofing, windows/curtainwall, exterior faรงade materials, roofing, and masonry.
- Knowledge of Building Codes and Energy Codes.
- Prior successful experience in project management is desired.
